SEC crypto task force adds moguls for March roundtable

The inaugural session will take place on March 21, 2025, among some of the a16z crypto and Delphi Ventures' leading legal minds, signaling a wider industry conversation. The roundtable, " How We Got Here and How We Get Out —Defining Security Status," will be held at the SEC's headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The session will address the classification of digital assets under current securities laws and what direction crypto regulation might take.

Featured speakers include a16z crypto General Counsel Miles Jennings and Delphi Ventures General Counsel Sarah Brennan. This finding highlights how more and more blockchain technologies and digital assets policy are being crafted and discussed at the behest of venture capital firms.

Jennings is a political scientist with deep regulatory and public policy expertise who advises a16z crypto portfolio companies on navigating through the fog of uncertainty around regulation. His involvement could offer significant perspectives on nurturing research while maintaining compliance.

Brennan, meanwhile, heads Delphi Ventures' policy initiatives and is a seasoned advocate for regulatory frameworks that maintain crypto's decentralized nature.

The other noteworthy panelists are Collins Belton of Brookwood P.C., Lewis Cohen of CahillNXT, Coy Garrison of Steptoe, and Teresa Goody Guillen of BakerHostetler. Troy Paredes, former SEC Commissioner, will moderate the discussion.

As the SEC faces increasingly intense regulatory scrutiny over the treatment of crypto assets, engagement with the SEC's top legal and industry experts suggests a less adversarial, if not coordinated, approach to determining security status and compliance protocols.

The knowledge shared through this roundtable could impact the SEC's approach to crypto-related enforcement actions and future policy decisions.

The roundtable is limited to the public, and a recorded session will later be made available on the SEC website.
